After digging up the address of the house we put up bid for last spring, I went on zillow.com to see how much it sold for in the end. Though the selling price was just $7k over our offer, I'm glad, in a way, that we did not get the house.

First of all, at our offer price, it would have been a lot of financial pressure--my savings would have been depleted, and I probably wouldn't have been able to save much money from each future paycheck. The house had a beautiful front yard with a cherry tree in the front with a good size living room, kitchen, and basement, and the view out the deck was nice, but the bedrooms were small and the closet in the master bedroom was unacceptable. The closet in the master bedroom wasn't even a walk-in closet! If we had got the house and I am living there right now, my commute to the metro would also no doubt take longer and the parking and metro fare costing more.

I hope to be able to find another place by next summer and the cooling housing market definitely helps. Right now I need to continue to save, save, save and find a real estate agent. It would be nice to be able to close on a place a month or two before the lease at my apartment is up so I can use the time to paint or remodel the house to my liking as necessary.
